Since the Holidays are approaching and my trip to Hawaii is super duper soon, here are some info about whats going on at Pretty Clementine and also with me.
Custom Couple Portraits - I will be taking the last batch of portraits (well, all customs) on November 20th and will have them done before Thanksgiving. Customs will resume the beginning of January. Any Purchases from my shop from December 6th through December 15th all orders will be shipped on Tuesday the 17th of December. Other than customs and not getting things shipped the week I am in Hawaii the shop is all good ;)

Id also just like to thank everyone who has visited and ordered from Pretty Clementine! ive had my shop for almost two years (started with Etsy) and it has finally started to rocket (there has definitely been some depressing moments, wondering if my shop would ever really take off.. but I know it always requires patience)! im so incredibly blessed and especially thankful to everyone for being so supportive and for just liking my art, period. Every kind word.. I really take that to heart & it really makes my dream more possible.

I really have been drawing since I could hold a pencil and since I was younger (sitting in front of the tv, drawing Daria characters) I knew I wanted to be an Artist. Growing up in a traditional Filipino family that wants you to become a nurse, I had a lot of convincing to do with my father and some of my family. making sure they knew that drawing is something I want to do for the rest of my life. Ive made it my major attending junior colleges and then attending the Art Institute majoring in Media Arts and Animation. And though I did not finish (finding a job to pay my rent and a lot of my bills was too important to pay for an expensive school), im glad I went there because I learned so much, met so many great & talented people and I really wouldn't have the mind set I have today.

Its incredibly hard work trying to get yourself and your work out there! Honestly, I have a lot of people to thank for that! So, thank you to those who have played some parts in my play :) I have really met some wonderful and super kind people on blogs and instagram.. I hope to meet all of you in person some day!

Christmas fever in the shop

my shop is into the Christmas spirit! :) ive added a bunch of Christmas themed art! Like PDF printable gift tags! print and cut! so easy and you can print as many as you want! I also created a new piece involving Joel and Clementine (from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). I got some printed yesterday and they came out so wonderfully.. I even hung one up in my room haha. And as ive mentioned before ive got Christmas postcards in the shop! Send a sweet letter to a friend, a loved one or a stranger ;)

martian girls

I rarely share my pencil drawings so I thought id post one. As you all know I have changed the name of my blog, well I also changed the name of my etsy shop from Rosalyn's Pretty Things to The Martian Maitland. The reason why is that I already have my main shop Pretty Clementine (which features all kinds of illustrations) but have been wanting to start a new project. As an illustrator and a dreamer of becoming an animator I have been wanting to start up a series. This series will be drawings of Alien girls, also known as Martian Girls. my idea of it is fun, geeky and girly. I grew fond of Aliens for years and years and have sketched up a few drawings of them in the past but now im ready to take it further. Im creating these Martian Girls in such a fun and sweet way. above are some sketches of them with hints of desserts (I got to add desserts into my pieces haha) and then theres a Martian girl from the 1920's. These are just ideas of what im wanting to whip up for my new shop. They will be Martians with different themes.
im looking to create buttons, maybe hand-painted brooches, portrait paintings of them and prints (basically like my Pretty Clementine shop but all Alien themed). The shop wont be open until maybe December or January but I might add a few things to see how it goes.

invitations : baby boy

im so excited that two lovely friends of mine will be having a little boy in January. They tied the not this past April and I was fortunate enough to attend. I even had the privilege of designing their "save the date" cards, bridal shower invitations & wedding invitations. I am honored once again to work with them by getting to design their baby shower invites! I actually really love doing invitations and im glad that my friends and family have came to me to do some for them. I love gathering their ideas and putting them all in one design. Though, I still have a lot to learn about designing. Sometimes it takes me a while to get just one placement right. haha. I get worried sometimes that maybe its a little too cluttered or "should this font be bigger than that?". So many endless errors but overall its a lot of fun to design them, haha. Above are just some bits from the current invites. After looking at it the next day, I may have to tweak it a bit. I think my favorite part from the whole design was creating the letter "A" with a mustache. Mustaches are their thing so I wanted to incorporate it somehow and I think I did it! :)

i have been wanting to do "outfit of the day" post but i never have time to take pictures! Im always rushing to get ready for work in the morning then im stuck here at work, sitting all day. And by the time i get home the light starts to fade away and my room is too dark (not to mention, messy) to take pictures. I shall make it a goal to start waking up early! haha. The dress that im wearing today is one of my favorites. i remember seeing it at Target for the first time and i had no hesitation. i didn't even try it on, i just bought it. it fits perfectly and i love paring it off with different colored cardigans and a brooch :) i think the plus side to OOTD post' is getting dressed pretty in the early mornings. i dress pretty decent but i don't do my make up and hair until the afternoon haha (yeah, i pretty much wake up in time to shower and leave my house for work). That must change.

I am so incredibly happy right now. Yesterday, a lovely customer has purchased one of my paintings. Its not only the fact that it was bought but more of the fact that it will be hanging in their home :) its an incredible feeling when someone wants a piece of your art. im so very thankful and yet a wee bit sad that Winona found a home. I will miss her dearly. But did you know that i still have a bunch more in stock (and more to come)?! click HERE to see them all. My paintings are probably my favorite pieces of work. Painting takes a lot more time and patience for me. i love the fact that i can get the pictures and colors in my head onto a canvas :)

Speaking of pictures and colors, who here watches Once Upon a Time? I remember even before it first started and seeing the trailers for it, it was a show that i knew that i really wanted to see! I saw the Pilot and that was it. Not because i didn't like it but because i was distracted by all sorts of things and forgot all about it. Well, thank you Netflix for having season 1 and 2 because now i can watch them all.. anytime.. anywhere. haha. Ive been having a Once Upon a Time marathon by myself haha and im sooooooo addicted. im at work right now and i cant wait to go home just to watch it! haha. Some of my friends have asked me before if i watch it, now i can say YES! One thing that i really love to do.. is talk about tv shows (and movies) ;)

the sweet sisters

finally, I got to paint and create! :) after I made myself a Starfleet Insignia brooch, I really had no idea what to do after. then I just sat there with a bunch of paint and disc in front of me and started creating. I just began painting on the disc without sketching my ideas down first. Which is actually good and bad. sometimes you get it the way you want it (key word *sometimes*) and other times its look crappy and then you gotta start over. Well, I had about 5 attempts until I came up with these (picture above). So I pretty much wasted 5 of those disc! haha. On the bright side, Im so happy how these turned out! Theyre called the Sweet Sisters. Im pretty sure you can guess why I named them that ;) Theyre exclusive, which means theyre limited and will only create more if people ask me to. Maybe more sisters (with different hair colors & desserts) will be added later on. They have all been added to my shop, so if youre wanting one... click here! yay.

oh yeah, its Friday the 13th. Am I the only one that believes in bad luck on this day?
well, one time on a Friday the 13th I slipped and fell in the shower and I now have a scar on my arm. and Today? I just had a failed attempt in my buying my ticket to the Danny Elfman concert and all I want to do is cry! ugh. :( oh annnnnnd I lost my Dwight brooch before heading to work this morning. I JUST got in yesterday and only wore it for about 4 minutes. it was pinned onto my dress. I remember still seeing it as i walked out of the house. but when I was checking the oil in my car I noticed it had disappeared. I even retraced my steps. I hope I find it. I seriously want to cry even more. hopefully today will get better with Scotty and Captain Kirk on the screen.

I really hope you aren't getting annoyed at my recent brooch postings! haha. im a little too excited about them.. also its really the only thing ive been working on recently. they have been a lot of fun to paint and its been giving me a boost of creativity. im wanting to keep a bunch of these, then I remember that I can always paint another. haha. my favorite brooches right now are the Mickey ears. I hope to go to Disneyland before the end of the year and rock one of them! on another note, remember when I told you that I was reading three books? Well, have I ever told you that I get distracted easily when I come across another book? Which explains why I was trying to read three. haha. Well, Simon Pegg (only the love of my life.. totally kidding.. ok, not really.) has a book called Nerd Do Well that I have recently purchased. Ive put the other three books aside and I cant seem to put Simons book down. Im not even halfway done and it has already become one of my favorites. ugh, i adore him so much.

my late night therapy

why did it feel like yesterday was the slowest day ever? I don't know what it was about yesterday but it wasn't the best. haha. After work, I kinda just sat on my bed most of the time, pigged out and watched Full House. At around 12am I finally decided to get off my bed and do something.. CREATIVE! So I went to my desk and painted a little ice cream cone. I will be putting this in my shop later today if anyone wants it! :) (oh and i forgot to add other prints into the shop as well, so those will be there by tonight). After painting I felt like I actually did something with my life. haha. But I guess its nice once and a while to just relax, its just that sometimes my mind wanders into the realms that I swear to never think about and then I feel sad. is that just me? =/ haha. So its better for me to keep busy! Read the bible, read Crazy Love, Paint, Draw.. you know, the good stuff!

I trust you all had a splendid weekend? mine was rather busy/relaxing/hot! Saturday was my sisters

birthday. We went to Broadway Prime in Burlingame and I bought her burnt almond cupcakes from Peters Bakery. Pretty much the best cake you will ever have in your entire life. seriously. Take a trip to San Jose, ca. You wont be disappointed! haha. After my sisters dinner, I had a lazy Saturday night at home. Sunday was a bbq at my best friends house, which was pretty relaxing while we watched Fast5. oh yeah, I gotta mention how extremely HOT it was yesterday. ugh, I hate the heat. I cant wait for Fall!!!

Oh, by the way! ive added a few things to the Pretty Clementine shop. Ive added my sketch of Pinocchio and Alice as well. Spock and Snow will be added tonight. PLUS a ton more :) yay!

Store Update

For some odd reason Storenvy isnt letting me upload pictures right now. I might have to try in on my laptop instead of my work computer. So the store will be updated in a couple hours! :) Im adding four paintings i have had for a while but havent had the chance to post them. I painted these specifically for the RAW showcase i did in June but no one bought them (my prints did very well though). From L to R: Miss Holly, Miss Ophelia & Miss Tabatha. They were all painted on an oval wood, measuring 7" in height and 5" wide. You can find Miss Ophelia already in my shop! But here are some photos of the other two:

Last but not least, the fourth painting i wanted to add to my shop is one that i love dearly (haha):

A 4" circle wood painted donut. Yes, obsessed, i know. haha. I cant wait to add more of these! I love how this just sits on my desk at home.. looks delicious and pretty. People can have the option of leaving the back side of it flat or having a little something on the back attached for hanging. It would be great for those (other) donut lovers or simply for decoration!

Smitten over: Eric Joyner + a makeover

So if you didnt know by now, i love love love (did i mention, love?) donuts. BUT i dont eat them a lot, mainly because im really trying to lose weight and donuts are definitely not the diet food. haha. I have always wanted to open my own little donut shop and sell my art work (along with local artists work). Hm, maybe someday! So, im kinda sad that i JUST discovered the artist Eric Joyner. Crazy right? His work is seriously amazzzzzzzzing. Im going to buy one of his prints.. soon! I cant help but keep staring at his work.. its really inspiring. The colors, the donuts, the robots, the details, the imagination.. i mean, really? Such a great painter! I have decided to start a new series of inspirations, titled "Smitten Over:" so Eric Joyner is my first post of that and i hope you enjoy his work shown here!
