The Nutty Professor (1963)

i got to see The Nutty Professor (1963) in theaters yesterday. Cinemarks likes to play old school movies here and there for about three days or so. i went searching on Fandango for a movie to watch with my niece and noticed The Nutty Professor playing! my chance to see Jerry Lewis on the big screen?! YES PLEASE!

you may be familiar with the 1996 remake with Eddie Murphy. in my opinion i think they could have done better with that film. its based off the original with a bunch of tweaks and definitely a different feel to the remake. i never really enjoyed it as much. maybe if they had toned it down a bit? different leading actor? i dont know but if youre going to remake a classic, at least make it GOOD. haha.

The Nutty Professor is about a college chemistry professor named Julius Kelps (Jerry Lewis). buck-tooth, accident-prone, nerdy kinda man. always getting picked out, even by the jocks! Given the impression that women like the hunky-hipster type of men, Julius whips up a potion to make him more attractive in hopes of winning the affection of his crush/student, Stella Purdy (Stella Stevens). His transformation makes him a smooth and handsome sleaze ball, who went by the name of Buddy Love. Turns out, Stella would prefer a man like the old professor. As Professor Julius' potion wears off, he is suddenly caught in center stage having stunned the crowed. in the end, he realizes he doesnt want to be something he is not.

it was cool taking my 14 year old niece to see this film in the theaters. what made it great was that we were the only ones in the theater and she really enjoyed the film. i know i very much enjoyed the film. why would i ever miss a chance to see Jerry on the screen!? hehe.

Guardians of the Galaxy

i got to see Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) yesterday! i took my nephew with me. i mean, there really was no one else better to see a Marvel movie with. haha. i love when i anticipate to see a movie so bad and it turns out exactly how i expected it.. awesome! GOTG was straight up fun, funny and action packed!

Chris Pratt did such an amazing job as Peter Quill. He has always been a very well liked actor and extremely hilarious, so he fit the part so well. i think its great that he has become apart of the Marvel family. I was also so siked to see Lee Pace' performance as Ronan. im such a huge fan of his! Pace (to me) just never disappoints. and i think thats why he's able to play such a variety of characters (a pie maker, vampire, elf). it was great seeing him as a Marvel villian and im pretty happy he has become apart of the Marvel family as well. That being said, id have to say Peter Quill and Ronan were my favorites from the film.

But i mean, that doesnt mean i didnt like Rocket and Groot. those two.. amazing freakin characters. tell me why i couldnt picture Bradley Cooper every time Rocket talked. haha. so weird. Rocket was seriously a bad-ass character! Groot, a lovable character and its pretty funny how Vin Diesel only had like two lines (repeating one of them). haha. oh yeah, and theres Drax! i liked his character but i think he stood out the least, for me.

Zoe Saldana as Gamora, she was fantastic. i loved her fight scenes. most of all, i was seriously digging her green makeup. haha. which steers me into the direction of... She-Hulk. is anyone else hoping they'd do a She-Hulk movie? i am! i mean, if theres already talks about this, please send me links. im not sure who would make a great She-Hulk but i would love for her to get her own movie and join the Avengers!

i have to say that i was also excited to see Peter Serafinowicz in the movie! he stared in Spaced, Star Wars Episode I (as my favorite, Darth Maul) and Shaun of the Dead ( my favorite Cornetto film). Hes such a handsome lad! :)
ok, overall, this movie was seriously amazing!! i enjoyed it from beginning to end. i really want to see it for a second time! if you have no seen it, please do!!!

MI Ghost Protocol

 

when it comes to Tom Cruise movies, i usually stay away. i dont know when my dislike for him started but i know it was sometime before high school. i remember when we had to watch one of his movies in History class (cant remember what it was) and i was seriously irritated. haha. the only exception to Tom Cruise movies would be Top Gun and War of the Worlds. so why on earth would i watch Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol (2011)?

yesterday i was watching tv, well sorta, it was just on while i was doing something, probably on my phone. what made me look up was the score of the movie. it was the beginning credits and that score grabbed my attention. all i kept thinking was, "sounds like a Michael Giacchino score.." (who is one of my favorite composers) and while i was guessing i saw that it said "Directed by Brad Bird" (one of my favorite directors annnnd who directed my favorite Pixar film, The Incredibles) and i was suddenly interested. i also recognized the score sounding like Mission Impossible theme but i knew that i had to put aside Tom Cruise and just give it a try! alsooooo... i think the first scene had Simon Pegg in it, so i knew i just had to put the remote away. haha.

i know, i know.. im really late watching this film and i totally skipped like all the other MI films before this.. but whatever. haha. i also forgot that Jeremy Renner was in the film. hes pretty hott. haha. fun fact: Jeremy is from Modesto, California (which is a little over an hour from where i live). my cousin actually knew him and went to a community college with him. pretty rad!

anyways, i actually really liked this film! it was funny and filled with action! totally forgot that Tom Cruise was Tom Cruise throughout the whole film. im sorry, Tom. for being such a jerk and refusing you. haha. i will give more Tom Cruise movies a try. TRY ;)

Movies : The Boxtrolls

my favorite form of animation is claymation! i literally tear up when watching any claymation/stop-motion film (i know, im so weird) but im just SO amazed at how beautiful it is. the detail and the amount of work that goes into it is just amazing and unbelievable. that being said, i have been waiting for The Boxtrolls for quite some time now! (of course, the way i found out about it was the fact that Simon Pegg is in it. haha). ive been following The Boxtrolls facebook and im so happy that they have been posting images of the characters and all its details. i found out yesterday that they have their own instagram!!

=O i mean, you have got to check out their IG and follow. You will be so incredibly amazed at those pictures and videos! if you have not heard of The Boxtrolls, its about an orphaned boy, Eggs, being raised by underground creatures called the Boxtrolls. Eggs has to save his family from an evil exterminator! the movie stars Elle Fanning, Issac Hempstead-Wright, Ben Kingsley, Simon Pegg (hehe), Nick Frost & MORE. you have got to check out the trailer ---> here.

Grind

heres a film ive seen so many times, it isnt new, but i wanted to introduce you to it in case you have not heard of it! Grind (2003) is one of my absolute go-to comedy films and it brings me back to my high school days where my girlfriends and i would watch it over over and just die laughing. This movie has gotten so many bad reviews, i mean, i cant blame them. it isnt your typical Oscar film BUT if you enjoy the skateboarding scene and just down right dumb-funny with well-known actors of today.. you might like this movie. i would say it belongs in the Cult films category.

growing up around the Santa Cruz area i was always surrounded by the skateboard scene. id watch it, sometimes ride, play Tony Hawks Pro Skater (my favorite video game, ever) and study my favorite pro-skaters. so this film wasn't hard for me to like!

the film is about four guys following their dreams in becoming pro skaters. when they find out one of their favorite pros has a demo tour in town and they follow it and thats where their adventure begins! the films lead characters are Mike Vogel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) as Eric Rivers/the dreamer, Vince Vieluf (Rat Race) as Matt Jensen/the funny, Adam Brody (The O.C.) as Dustin Knight/the brains and Joey Kern (The Sasquatch Gang) as Sweet Lou/the sexy. the film also stars Jennifer Morrison (Once Upon a Time) as Jamie, the leading lady. Not only that but what got me so much more excited about the film was seeing all the pro skaters. Chad Fernandez, Bam Margara, Ryan Sheckler, Bucky Lasek (my fave) and Bob Burnquist. You will also notice a couple more famous folks, like Jackass stars. haha.

as incredibly cheesy this movie is its in my book of favorite films! what can i say, im easily entertained!

Her

Took me a while but i finally saw Her (2013). It was quite intriguing when i first saw the previews to this film. i mean, intriguing and interesting. i love movies like this. out of the norm and unexpected! I also wanted to see it because of Joaquin Phoenix. im a huge fan of his and hes really such a fantastic actor. I think this might be my favorite character of his :)

If you havent seen Her, i really suggest you do. i watched it with my brother and brother in law and the both of them were really hard headed about it. haha. they were completely weirded out by the whole story (i mean i'd have to agree, its out of the ordinary). i kept telling them to look past it and see the movie for what it actually is, its creativity! i was so in love with the cinematography, the style, music, the futuristic technology, the incredible acting and.. the story! if this movie was made by any other than Spike Jonze, it probably wouldve been a failure. in my opinion. But it just had that Spike Jonze feel to it!

The story is basically what you see in the previews.. Theodore; a lonely, introverted man, who is going through heartache over a divorce falls in love with his operating system, Samantha, and everything pretty much revolves around that. I love that through it all (having a relationship with the operating system) he becomes different and more alive. more happy. even though the whole idea of dating a computer is just plain weird, i really liked seeing his transformation.

rent the movie and watch it! just fyi, theres a few sexual encounters. haha. even though my niece and nephew were in their rooms, the sound was a bit awkward.. kind of had to do the mute button a few times. haha!

Days of Future Past

Ive been a long time X-Men fan since i was little. X-Men comics were probably the first comics i ever picked up. Which probably explains my love for Storm! I could honestly watch all the X-Men films over and over and not get tired of them. Theyre those "feel good" movies for me. haha. Like, do you ever just put on a movie, sit back and it makes you feel comfortable? haha. Am i weird? But anyways X-Men films fit into that category for me. Though, in my opinion they do have some flaws. like the casting for Storm and Rogue. in my opinion, i think both were way off. Both characters, to me, are these extremely strong women. but they come off a little too soft in the movie =/ uh well. haha. 

Lets talk about Days of Future Past! I was so excited to watch this film and it did not disappoint me. You're constantly surprised, laughing and just straight up full of emotions. haha. What separates this X-Men film from the rest is how deep it was. You're watching the relationship between Erik and Xavier and i think that was something everyone wanted to know. brilliant! Personally, as much id love to see the action i also like knowing the deeper parts of characters. This film (and First Class) were films i enjoyed.

The movie takes place in both future and past. I was talking to someone recently who hasnt seen it and was confused at the title itself haha "i dont even know what its about? is it in the future or past?" im like "just watch it!" :) How do i give a story without giving anything away? Hm, ill try my best! the movie starts off in the future. Pretty much everything gone wrong after something that happened in the past. to fix that problem? Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page) sends Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) back to the 1970's to find Erik and Xavier in helping him stop Mystique from making the biggest mistake they would endure in the future.

I think Michael Fassbender as Magneto is one of the best castings. i swear im not being biased. haha. Fassy is such an amazing actor. Hes really good at being the bad guy and thats why i love him as Magneto. As much i love Storm, she hasnt done it for me in the X-Men films. Id have to say my favorites from the all of the X-Men films are Magneto, Night Crawler and....

Pietro Maximoff! aka Quicksilver! If you have seen Days of Future Past you might feel me on this one! Adding Quicksilver was the ultimate plus in the film. Im so happy they finally added him and i heard that he will be in the next X-Men film "Apocalypse". YES! and will also appear in the new Avengers film (as a different actor). I heard that theres this whole thing about people complaining about Quicksilver's get up? i didnt have a problem with it. I mean, hes a kid so they made him look like one. haha. I must admit though, Aaron Taylor-Johnson in his Quicksilver get up in the next Avengers film looks more like the character than in X-Men but uh well. Overall this film was one of the best X-Men films ive seen! and can we all agree that Hugh Jackman was made to play Wolverine!? I swear, hes just perfect for that role!

This Saturday ill be going to the SF Giants game and guess what!? It so happens to be Heroes and Comics night! Im thinking of doing an Everyday Cosplay of either Quicksilver or Magneto! im so excited! First i got to see John Lasseter throw the first pitch and now STAN LEE! i better get there early! haha :)

Im still crushing over this movie and i have yet to watch it again! who wants to come with!? haha.

EVERYDAY COSPLAY:

A couple weeks ago the lovely Megan, aka The Nerdy Girlie, came up with a couple Everyday Cosplay for Captain America Winter Soldier. I LOVED it! She came up with great outfits! My birthday is in April and since the new film comes out in April (4th) ive decided to do Captain America as my little birthday theme. Which means having my very own "birthday cosplay outfit" and having little Captain America décor at the restaurant ill be dining at. IM SO EXCITED!

Except for the black boots, theyre from Target (second favorite) and the Captain America necklace. I stumbled upon that necklace on etsy and im totalllllly gonna be rockin it on my birthday :)

Mary & Max

My inspiration for Animation comes from a handful of different things. One of them being, films. Heres a film that I want to talk about and also recommend to you all. Its a Clay-Animation film called Mary and Max.

Mary and Max - is about a young 8 year old named Mary Daisy Dinkle who lives in Australia and a 44 year old man named Max Horowitz who lives in New York City. Mary and Max become friends through letters and through two decades they share each others lives. Im not going to lie, I cry at the end, every time. =/ Im not giving anything away. haha. I actually found out about the film while stumbling through Netflix a year ago (the film came out in 2009). I was looking for something good to watch and the cover for Mary and Max intrigued me. I started reading the reviews and was a little hesitant when I read some saying "not recommended for children". I was like, "what? but its an animation film. I wonder why?". But I read on and the reviews seemed to be good so I gave it a watch.

While watching it I understood why it isnt recommended for children. the humor for one. second, the film has more of an "adult" like fashion. Meaning, it talks a lot about things that adults would mainly understand. Quoting Wiki - "The film deals with themes including childhood neglect, friendship, the obscurity of life, teasing, loneliness, autism (Asperger syndrome in particular), obesity, depression and anxiety."

When I first saw the opening of the film.. music playing while the camera takes shots of the Claymation hometown of Mary.. I think I shed a tear. Other than the story being incredibly good, the Animation itself is breathless. I have an obsession with Claymation. I think it just amazes me how much detail and craftsmanship is put into it. I could actually just watch the film with no sounds and still be satisfied. I like that NYC and Australia are both set in different tones. Max is set in a black and white tone while Mary is set in a more earthy tone. Max is more of this depressed person with anxiety which I think the tones match well and Mary is this sweet little girl with a more lighter tone.

I hope you all take the time to watch this film. Im not sure, but i think its still on Netflix. Or just buy the film, i promise, you wont be disappointed ;) haha If you have any Claymation film recommendations for me, please comment and let me know!

10 films of 2013

being the movie fanatic that I am, I figured id make a list of the 10 movies I obsessed over this year. now, there are some that didn't make the list because i haven't seen them yet (those movies are: The Desolation of Smaug, Saving Mr. Banks, Her, The Wolf of Wall Street and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty). And im certain they would all make the list once ive seen them (which im sure will be after New Years). Heres my top 10 movies! All recommend, of course!



10. Captain Phillips : This was insane anxiety throughout the whole film. The fact that its based on a true story is what makes it more interesting and believable. Tom Hanks never seizes to amaze me!

9. Gravity : speaking of anxiety.. haha.. yeah, this film probably won that award. I got to see it in 3D (which im not too fond of but I wouldn't have seen it any other way with this one!). The fact that it had only 2 actors, the effects and simplicity of something so real is pretty impressive. This was a really good film!

8. This is the End : I think this movie was pretty brilliant. taking celebrities as they are and filming this intense situation. its a genius comedy. the story took me a little bit by surprise and some things were a little heavy (haha) but I didn't take it seriously (its a movie!) and it was just full on hilarious!

7. Fast and Furious 6 : been a Fast and Furious fan since the beginning but didn't really like ALL films. I think the first, five and this one was the best. Fast 6 was a really good fun/action film. I laughed and I gasp! (RIP Paul).

6. Thor the Dark World : I got to see this one 2 times in the theater :) so yeah, of course this would make the list. I actually favorite this film over the first one. Mainly because theres is just much more going on. I also love the fact that Loki had this on-going humor. There were some things I wasn't too fond of in the film but overall I think it was very entertaining. it also reminded me a bit of Star Wars, you can comment if you're interested in that part. haha.

5. Frozen : this movie. oh my. this movie. I thought this movie was just lovely and hilarious! more hilarious than anything. I loved the character of Ana. They made her character very relatable to ton of girls (i.e. me haha). I loved her awkwardness. Oh and Olaf the snowman.. one of the best characters ever made. though I didn't fancy the music so much, this film is probably one of the best animation films ive seen.

4. Monsters University : I waited for MU for so dang long. the wait was SO worth it. I was not disappointed one bit. the animation was incredible! the music.. oh my! and the humor.. just. YES. i just cant get over the quality of the film. MU has become my top favorite animation films.

3. Hunger Games Catching Fire : every time i would see the trailer for this film id get serious goosebumps. So you can probably only imagine how i felt watching the entire film. i love the first film but this one was just truly amazing. its one of the best films ive ever seen. i told everyone that my anxiety was so bad, that i almost threw up. haha. its true. i was either going to vomit or walk out cause i couldn't handle it. its just that good of a film. haha.

 2. Star Trek Into Darkness : never was i a Trekkie fan until i saw the trailer for the first Star Trek film (directed by J.J. Abrams). i wanted to see it so bad which was really weird. So, i saw it and completely fell in love. i was one of the geeks that got all super giggly and excited when Into Darkness came out. J.J. Abrams is just a genius. every film he takes on is just incredible! The acting, music, humor, effects and action in this film was full on fantastic! One of my favorites!

1. The Worlds End : Edgar Wright fits the genius category with Abrams. Huge fan of his work and (again) he did not disappoint with this film. Ive always admired the creativity Wright, Pegg and Frost have. To me, theyre comedic masterminds. The Worlds End was one of the funniest films ive ever seen. So random with brilliant humor, beer and alien robots. haha. Happy that it just fits so well with the other Cornetto films.

youve got red on you

Shaun of the Dead is one of my most favorite films, ever. I knew at the beginning of the year that I wanted to be Shaun Riley for Halloween! But.. of course.. I waited until the night before and the morning of Halloween to put my costume together. haha. I mean, not that it was hard. but I was extremely exhausted from my trip to LA and really only had about 2-3 hours Wednesday night to go to 4 different stores and put everything together. the outfit was good and ready to go but by the time I finished I became even more tired. So I didn't get to create my Foree Electric badge AND make a cricket bat :( So I woke up a little earlier than usual and created my badge on Illustrator, printed it at work and put it together by taping it onto a piece of cardboard and attaching a pin to the back.

I went to work dressed as Shaun but no one really knew who I was. haha. I actually didn't put my tie on till later so maybe people thought I was just dressed in white shirt with red ink leaking. Actually, when I went to Wallmart on my lunch to get my tie, a man had stopped me and said "excuse me Ma'am, your pen is leaking" haha. I giggled and said that it was meant to look like that but thank you! haha he laughed.

at night I got to put some blood on my shirt! YAY! haha. not as much as I really wanted to since I was hugging and carrying the baby. If I wear this costume again I want to add more blood and definitely have a cricket bat this time. haha. im thinking of being Shaun again for Cosplay at Comic Con! This Halloween I stayed with my family and went trick or treating with my niece and nephew. it was a lot of fun. cold but still fun.

 I think this costume is one of my most favorites (a close tie to the one time I was Frodo), even though it was simple this costume was more than just a costume. it represents my love for the movie itself, the Cornetto Trilogy, being an Edgar Wright fan and being in love with Simon Pegg (haha). I think next year i miiiight be Gary King from The worlds End. maybe. i would love to be one of the Marmalade Sandwich girls if i had two friends that would like to join in! haha. We'll see!

Gravity + Giveaway(s)

happy Friday everyone! Last night I got to see the movie Gravity in 3D. im not too big on 3D, only because the glasses usually gives me a slight headache =/ but I stuck it out and saw the movie in 3D anyway (ive been hearing a lot of good reviews about it and saying to see it in 3D). Ive got to say, im glad I did! I don't think that movie would be the same if it was seen on the regular screen! That's just my opinion though. if you plan on seeing it, please see it in 3D. you wont be disappointed. (and the winner for writing "3D" a bunch of times in once paragraph goes to.....)!

I really don't like spoiling movies, so theres really not much im gonna say about. other than my anxiety was passed its normal status! haha. it was pretty intense! I think what I loved the most about the film was how real everything looked. the effects & cinematography were off the charts!

If you read my Past Couple of Days post, i mentioned that friday night was a little Star Trek girls night at my friends house. i also mentioned that i was going to DIY a Trekkie shirt as well. That didn't happen. i had no time to create such a thing. instead, i thought id do a "Star Trek Bound" (in relation to "Disney Bound"). So, of course red and black would have to do it! I also did my Starfleet Insignia brooch and you could see it in the second photo :)!
you probably cant tell, but I went as Montgomery Scott! haha. I had a lot of fun. we watch both movies! We had delicious pizza, chocolate chip cookies and drank ice tea and milk from wine glasses. I hope we do "girls nerd night" again and maybe watch Star Wars this time ;)
Star Trek is probably my favorite movie of the year. Though, until I watched The Worlds End. haha.
Still, Star Trek Into Darkness was brilliant and if you haven't seen it yet, please do!
